The political boundaries in Sub-Saharan Africa pose significant obstacles to genuine development, mirroring the colonial economies and political structures that were imposed during that era. These borders, established during the Berlin Conference of 1884-85, were primarily designed for the exploitation of the region’s resources by European powers. Disturbingly, these divisions continue to linger even after decades of independence, undermining the dignity and rich heritage of Sub-Saharan Africans for more than sixty years. Leaders in this region must cultivate a sense of patriotism and bravery, reclaiming their autonomy to define the future of Sub-Saharan Africa on their terms. Unity is vital for achieving true independence and lasting prosperity. With one of the youngest populations globally and an abundance of natural resources, a united Sub-Saharan Africa has the potential to emerge as a hub of labor, creativity, and innovation if approached collaboratively.
